The Ondo State Police Command has rescued an abducted woman, Oluwaseun Adebayo, and arrested four suspects linked to the incident in Akure, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement released to journalists on Thursday in Akure.

According to Ayanlade, the rescue operation followed a swift response by police officers after an alert was raised by a concerned citizen. The abduction occurred on November 4, around 6:30 p.m., along Weluwelu Street, Ilekun, Oda, in Akure South Local Government Area.

“A good Samaritan informed the police that four young men driving an unregistered Toyota Camry had forcefully abducted a lady and were heading toward the Shoprite roundabout in Akure,” Ayanlade said.

He explained that police operatives quickly mobilised and strategically blocked the suspects’ escape route.

“The team successfully intercepted the vehicle, arrested all four suspects, and rescued the victim immediately. The woman was being taken to an unknown destination before our officers intervened,” he added.

Ayanlade noted that the quick coordination between the public alert and the police response played a vital role in preventing what could have been another tragic case of abduction.

The unregistered Toyota Camry (popularly known as ‘Muscle Camry’) used in the crime was recovered as evidence. The four suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to uncover more details surrounding the case.

He also quoted the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, who commended the professionalism and quick action of the officers involved in the operation.

The CP also appreciated the vigilant members of the public whose timely information led to the successful rescue, stressing that such cooperation reflects the growing trust between the police and the community — a key element of modern policing.

Earlier, PUNCH Online reported that the command had also arrested 13 suspects allegedly involved in crimes such as cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, fraud, burglary, and theft across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Commissioner Lawal said the suspects would be charged in court after investigations are completed.

“In line with our community-driven and intelligence-led policing model, the command continues to record remarkable progress in tackling cultism, armed robbery, vehicle theft, fraud, and burglary across the state,” he said.
